Here's our home for the next 32 days.
Entering South Dakota at sunset.
They're headed for Wall Drug.
We're headed for Wall Drug.
The breathtaking Badlands. Our first Nat'l Park.
Welcome to Wyoming: 2 lane roads and deer.
Woke up in Boyson State Park.
6 am, Wyoming sunrise.
Boyson State Park, Eastern edge of the Wind River Reservation
(Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes)
Brandon's rock art.
Du Bois, WY. 6940 ft. A pretty great little town.
So, we lost the road in the mountains of WY.
Video to come.
The Grand Tetons.
And now we're entering Yellowstone, land of bears, bison and really bad drivers (tourists).
Video to come.
Video to come.
This is not a diorama.
(Elk across the river)
And there they are...
Grand Prismatic Spring.
Mammoth Hot Springs.
OSPREY!!!!!!!!! (-kate)
Sunset in MT.
Seriously, this state is a deadzone for hitch hikers and in a VW bus, you're hitch hiker bait.
"Er, sorry, no room for you and your dog..."
Entering the panhandle.
Overrated for difficult driving, underrated for scenic views.
And we're in Washington!
Notice our GPS died. We spent most of yesterday touring REI stores from Spokane to Seattle in attempts to restore navigation capability so Kate could end her disastrous career as a navigator.
We closed out Seattle's main REI store last night and headed to Green Lake.
Right now we're at Zoka where the coffee is great and the chai is beautiful.
If you come this way, seriously, visit this place. They are generous with the wi-fi. Thanks!

FOR THE TRAVELER
ReplyDeleteEvery time you leave home,
Another road takes you
Into a world you were never in.
New strangers on other paths await.
New places that have never seen you
Will startle a little at your entry.
Old places that know you well
Will pretend nothing
Changed since your last visit.
When you travel, you find yourself
Alone in a different way.
More attentive now
To the self you bring along.
Your more subtle eye watching
You abroad; and how what meets you
Touches that part of the heart
That lies low at home:
How you unexpectedly attune
To the timbre in some voice,
Opening a conversation
You want to take in
To where your longing
Has pressed hard enough
Inward, on some unsaid dark,
To create a crystal of insight
You could not have known
You needed
To illuminate
Your way.
When you travel,
A new silence
Goes with you.
And if you listen,
You will hear
What your heart would
Love to say.
A journey can become a sacred thing:
Make sure, before you go,
To take the time
To bless going forth,
To free you heart of ballast
So that the compass of your soul
Might direct you toward
The territories of spirit
Where you will discover
More of your hidden life,
And the urgencies
That deserve to claim you.
May you travel in an awakened way,
Gathered wisely into your inner ground:
That you many not waste the invitations
Which wait along the way to transform you.
May you travel safely, arrive refreshed,
And live your time away to its fullest;
Return home more enriched, and free
To balance the gift of days which call you.
